WELLNESS DAY: 1-DAY CLEANSE WITH URBAN REMEDY | LOW-GLYCEMIC CLEANSE REVIEW
We’ve always been curious about juice cleanses and have heard good things about what they can do to help give our bodies a reboot. On a recent trip to Whole Foods, we decided to give the 1-day Low-Glycemic Cleanse from Urban Remedy a try.
What does low-glycemic mean exactly?
The glycemic index assigns a value to assess how carbohydrates-rich foods raise blood sugar levels. Low, medium, and high ratings are used in the index. Low-glycemic foods often contain less sugar and are less likely to cause a blood sugar surge.
How does the 1-day cleanse work?
Kicking off your cleanse day with a cup of warm lemon water is suggested per the guidelines. Then, start by drinking juice #1 after around 15 to 20 minutes, and keep doing so every two hours after that. It is simple to follow along and keep track of which juice you are because each one is labeled from 1 through 6. The juices are your only nourishment for the day while on the 1-day detox. Yet pay attention to your body. You can snack on raw almonds or macadamia nuts if you need more energy. Low-glycemic berries like strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries are also an option. A 2 oz. shot of Turmeric Relieve is also included in the cleanse.
What’s in the 1-day cleanse?
There are six juices in total and one 2oz Turmeric shot. All of the juices are certified organic.
JUICE #1: Slender Greens | 50 calories, 2g protein, 8g sugar
Cucumber, celery, spinach, parsley, and lemon are all packed into this 16 oz—alkaline juice. Even without much sugar, we found this drink to be light and refreshing. It was an easy-to-drink veggie juice. You can taste the vegetables, with the celery flavors coming forward the most. Not a bad way to start the cleanse.
JUICE #2: Tumeric Boost | 15 calories, 0g protein, 1g sugar
This 12 oz. lemonade gave the morning a revitalizing kick. Here, there are only three basic ingredients: stevia, lemons, and turmeric. The stevia-sweetened lemonade was not excessively sweet and blended beautifully with the flavors of the turmeric.
JUICE #3: Deep Cleaning | 50 calories, 2g protein, 8g sugar
This 16 oz. juice is bursting with veggie goodness. It’s got cucumber, celery, lemon, spinach, dandelion, parsley, and burdock root and promises to cleanse and hydrate your body. Much like the slender greens, it is a veggie juice and tastes that way.
2OZ TURMERIC SHOT: Turmeric Relief | 30 calories, 0g protein, 5g sugar
This turmeric shot has a good combination of sweet and spice thanks to the pineapple, lemon, ginger, turmeric, and cayenne found in this shot. As you drink it, the cayenne and ginger give it a pretty good spicy kick that tingles the back of the throat. This shot was a nice post-workout shot after a light jog because it was so tasty and refreshing.
JUICE #4: Green Berry | 180 calories, 3g protein, 19g sugar
The green berry juice was a welcome break from the cleanse's earlier veggie-centric liquids. In this 16 oz. juice, you'll find a blend of berries, kale, spinach, pineapple, goji, açai, and chia seeds. It's also been lightly sweetened with Stevia. This one felt more filling than the previous juices. We welcomed the additions of berries, chia seeds, and açaí.
JUICE #5: Glow | 50 calories, 2g protein, 8g sugar
This 16 oz. juice, appropriately called Glow, claims to provide a healthy glow inside and out. Cucumber, celery, lemon, spinach, E3Live, kale, and parsley are all packed into this veggie juice. Glow is one of Urban Remedy’s most popular green juices. This one had a nice balance of flavors and it was pretty easy to drink.
JUICE #6: Golden Turmeric | 160 calories, 4g protein, 4g sugar
Rounding out the 1-day cleanse is this 16 oz. golden turmeric drink that combines coconut and cashew milk for a creamy finish. Also mixed in are turmeric, vanilla, maca root, ginger, and sweetened with monk fruit. We’ve found that other golden milks we’ve tried were either too gritty or too spicy, but we didn’t find that here, and it was a nice balance of flavors to finish out our cleanse.

TL;DR | 1-day cleanses are a great way to give your body a break from sugar and give it a little cleanse and reboot. When you feel your best inside, you’ll be able to take on life at your best. Drink the six juices as directed, and definitely do it on a day when you don’t have too much going on because you won’t have as much energy as you normally do since you are only on juices. The juices are light, refreshing, and easy to drink.
