MEZZO BERKELEY: A LOCAL GEM SERVING UP FRESH SALADS, SOUPS & SANDWICHES
FIELD NOTES | A DAY IN THE BAY: MEZZO - BERKELEY, CA
Mezzo in Berkeley is a local gem serving delicious salads, soups, and sandwiches, made with fresh homemade ingredients since 1983. It touts a friendly vibe where everything is made to be order, so make sure you're ready when you're next up to bat.
Formerly known as Cafe Intermezzo, they were closed for about six years after a fire broke out and burned down their building. Now in a revamped space, they've come back much to the delight of all Intermezzo fans who have frequented the Telegraph Ave staple over the years. They've kept some of the interior dΓ©cor charm from the original space and brought it forward with some modern touches. Walk through the restaurant, and you'll find it's connected to Raleight's, where you can grab a beer to go with your salad on their lovely outdoor patio.
While the space has evolved, they've kept the menu true to the classics they're known for, like the freshly baked honey wheat bread and poppyseed dressing. It's one of our favorite dynamic duos when those lunchtime cravings hit.
For today, we went with a half salad, half sandwich combo: tossed green salad with the honey vinaigrette with an added boiled egg + a black forest ham sandwich on honey wheat bread.
But you really can't go wrong with what you decide to order.
